I have bought a new modem. A Huawei E367. (The old one occasionally hung the PC boot)

It was very easy to install, and can be configured to connect silently. 100€

I have also bought a new TV stick. A HAUPPAUGE DVB-T STICK WINTV NOVA TD. 

It has diversity which is great as I have two antennas in the rear bumper. New sw is always better too. This one is said to plug into windows mediaplayer. 50€

The modified monitor is back in the car finally. It was a simple upgrade of the BM that took 1,5 years and, well, the original BM is still at home. The one in the car is a brand new build...

Investigating the USB wiring.

Status

The monitor is back in the car, now with 3 new items. LED backlight, and two cpu boards. One for interfacing the buttons, and one for controlling the door motor and other things. The 2 cpu boards made it possible to remove the BMW electronics.

I can now sit in the front seat with my laptop using tightVNC. No DHCP needed, computer name "sanaton-flash" is sufficient to connect. Remote desktop works too.

BM is running on 800x600 resolution right now. This is not great, but can wait.

Since it has been such a long time, I am not sure of system state. This is the state:

Remember that the DVD is isolated in the BM. 

Project Step by step

Current status: 

A. 
- I want to get the resolution working on the PC and see that the tuner is working before I say this is 100% complete. When opening the dash next time (hopefully never) I want to replace the connector for the switch.

B. Installation
- Bass control for the sound system.

C. Sw drivers are installed and debugged

D. All apps are installed and configured

E. The applications are wrapped, installed and skinned
Well, this is what I will be starting to work on now for sure. I might reconsider the entire thing, and go Linux.

Minor problems:
- I do not see entire trip in GooPS.
- USB..
- Maybe a better TV with diversity
