First released in january 1997, Flying Corps captures the fights in the air over France in 1917 and 1918 during the First World War. The landscape is based on maps and aerial reconnaissance photos from the time. You can fly six different planes (seven in gold version), four allied and two (three) german, all with different flight models and caracteristics. The flight models and AI are generally concerned to be good as well as the landscape. There are quick missions as well as four different (scripted) campaigns.
Late in 1997 the game was updated to Flying Corps Gold. The most important news were added 3D support (D3D), an new plane (Fokker D7), a quite powerful mission editor and force feedback support. Multiplay support was also added, but is known to be a weak spot, at least in internet play. A free update to gold version is aviable, see hints and help section. This free update only updates the game to D3D version and doesn't include the mission editor and Fokker D7.
The Flying Corps series was developed by Rowan Software, developers of sims like Mig Alley and Battle of Britain. The game was published by Empire interactive.
