THE TELSTARS

***

History

1963 The Telstars was started by Gösta Nilsson and Rolf Bäckman, two happy jazz lovers born in the early thirtieth. Inspired by many of the American and Swedish jazzmusicians. And members of the most wellknowed bigbands and jazzbands in Sweden, Thore Erlings Bigband, Leif Kronlunds Bigband, Harry Arnolds Radioband ( Swedish all-star jazzmusicians, even Quincy Jones played here. ) and Carl-Henrik Norins Jazzband, Hacke Björkstens Jazzband completed they their dream, to have an own band. Gösta and Rolf name "their music-stile" for "JazzPop" as also became the title of their first LP-album that was released 1964, a mix of jazz and pop, jazz for their roots and pop for the new and hip, a good combination at the time, and it was rigth, they scored! Pretty good I will say, they became the houseband in the TV-program "Drop in" ( The Beatles and the most famous bands in the ´60 was on that TV-show .). And they was also foreband to The Beatles on their first tour in Sweden 1963.

There was announced a melody-competition on the national television. There were many melodies competing but Telstars was the winner with the song " Håll dej till höger, Svensson " ( Keep yourself to the right, Svensson.). Svensson are a family-name but also a name for the typical Swedish citizen. The song written by Peter Himmelstrand. One's again a big score for The Telstars was taken...
