Most parts are already open. More information. Last part opens in late 2004. E47 from Copenhagen to Rødbyhavn and the ferry to Germany. A small portion on the islands of Lolland and Falster is yet to be upgraded to motorway standard. This is the last bit left between Copenhagen and the ferry to Germany from Rødby. More information and even more information. Ready in 2007. R8 from Sönderborg (Southern Jylland) to the E45 at Kliplev. Plans for 25 km of a new motorway, with construction starting in 2006. R9 from Odense to Svendborg will be turned into a motorway. The project is scheduled to be ready in 2007. The part from Odense southwards to Ringe is being built at the moment. This part and the part continuing from Ringe to Kvaerndrup will open in 2006. The rest will open in 2007 and 2008. More information (in Danish). R15 from Århus and the E45 is going to be turned into a motorway going all the way to Herning. The distance is approximately 80 km. The part from Herning past Ikast and to route 13 opened in 2002 and the part from Århus westwards past Galten was opened in November 2003. The part from Bording to Silkeborg west will be constructed from 2006 onwards. The last part is then from Silkeborg west to Låsby. It has not been decided weather this road is going to be built. More information (in Danish) R15 from Århus to Grenå. This is the part of R15 going eastwards from Grenå. A section of motorway (approx. 14 km), linking the E45 north of Århus to an already constructed section starting at Løgten, will be constructed. Construction will start late this year and the road will open in 2008. R18 from Herning to Vejle. The road from Herning southwards to Brande will be turned in to a motorway and is due to be ready in 2008 (November 2003). Givevej to Ris, south of Brande, (5,6 km) will be built from 2006 to 2008. Ris to Vejle Nord is going to be constructed from 2008 or 9 onwards. 5 km around Brande will be widened in 2010-11. The entire road will then be complete in 2011. A further extension to Holstebro is being planned. More information (in Danish). R21. North of Holbaek. A small portion of road is being turned in to motorway, opening in 2006. More information (in Danish) R26. Århus to Viborg to Hanstholm. Plans are being made for extending the entire route, but most likely there will only be a full motorway from Århus to Viborg, the remaining parts being in expressway standard. Bridge to Germany past Fehmarn belt. The bridge is going to be built between Rødbyhavn and Puttgarden (today you have to use a ferry) and is going to make it much easier going from Copenhagen to Hamburg. A consortium has been set up by the German and Danish states (see website) and the Danish government mentioned in a plan of April 2003 that the bridge could be ready by 2015. The bridge is also one of the Top Ten projects designated by the EU, and in its 2003 brochure the year 2014 is mentioned as a possible date for inaugurating the bridge (in 2002 the EU aimed at 2013...). More information (in Danish) and even more information (in Danish). Road from Copenhagen to Fredrikssund. The first stretch of motorway on this 30 km route will be built from 2006 onwards. Finland Useful links: Tiehallinto, the Finnish road authority Liikenne- ja viestintäministeriö/Kommunikationsministeriet, the Finnish ministry for communications Present projects: No new projects to be initiated in 2003 or in 2004, according to the governments plan (summer of 2003). E12-3 Helsinki to Tampere. A part south of Tampere is either being constructed or is ready for traffic. This is the last section in the complete motorway from Helsinki to Tampere. E18/E18-1 Turko/Åbo to Helsinki. The section between Paimio and east of Salo is now ready. A section between Lojo and Lojoåsen is being constructed. After the construction of this section there will still be a portion left between Lojo and Salo. This was postponed in the 2004 budget. According to an EU plan this road is supposed to be ready in 2010. The road from Helsinki to the Russian border. This is part of the EU top ten priority projects. Large sections are still to be built. According to the EU plan it is supposed to be ready in 2015. Small portion being built just to the south of Oslo. It is going to be ready in the fall of 2004. More information (in Norwegian). There is a project for the rest of the motorway, some parts of it has already been ready for quite a while. Bridge over the Svinesund fjord, on the border to Sweden. The new bridge will make the trip southwards, towards Göteborg and the rest of Europe, easier. It is being constructed at the moment, and is ready in June 2005. More information (in Norwegian). E6 Northwards, from the Oslo Airport (Gardemoen) to Moelv, north of Hamar. Hamar is just south of the former Olympic city of Lillehammer. Plans are being made for turning this stretch into a motorway. More information (in Norwegian). E18. Road going from Oslo to the southwest, following the coast. It is partly a motorway already. Some smallish new parts are being built. More information, look under Region Sør (in Norwegian). E39 from Kristiansand (the southermost part of Norway, with ferries to Denmark) to Stavanger, on the westcoast. Around Stavanger the motorway is completed. Several other parts are being planned or built. More information, look under Region Sør and Region Vest (in Norwegian). Sweden Useful links: Vägverket, the National road agency Present projects: E4 To the north from Uppsala to Gävle. 78 km to be opened in October 2007. This will mean a motorway going all the way from Stockholm to Gävle with a by-pass of Uppsala. More information (in Swedish). E4 Stockholm to Helsingborg (and ferries to Denmark). Strömsnäsbruk to Örkelljunga is one of the last missing links to get a full four-lane motorway from Stockholm to the Danish border. Part of it is already being built with portions being ready in the fall of 2004 (southern part) and the last part in 2006 (northern part). More information about the southern part and More information about the northern part (in Swedish). Even after these additions 32 km of road past Ljungby will not be in motorway standard. E4 Skellefteå to Kåge. In northern Sweden a part of the E4 is being expanded to become a motorway. The construction is due to begin in the late 2003 and the road is going to be ready in 2005. E6 Göteborg to the Norwegian border. The road from Göteborg past Uddevalla has been ready for some time. North of Uddevalla (or more precisely, a place called Torp) a 20 km stretch in the middle is ready and other parts are being built. The bridge crossing the Swedish-Norwegian border at Svinesund is going to be ready in June 2005. Map and More information (In Swedish). The entire project is going to be ready in 2009, according to government plans in December 2003. However, the Road Agency has said in August 2004 that the the last parts will be ready only in 2015. E6/E22 Trelleborg to Vellinge (South of Malmö). From Trelleborg there are ferries going to Germany. The construction is going to start in 2006 or 7, and the road will hopefully be finished in 2008. More information (in Swedish). E18 Stockholm to Örebro (north of Lake Mälaren).The part from Västerås westwards to Köping is being studied, but no decision have been made to build it. A long term plan in 2004 said that 7 km was going to be built in 2012-2015. Westwards from Enköping: 15 km was going to be built in 2012-2015, according to the same plan. E18 from Örebro to the Norwegian border. Some small parts are in motorway standard. 6 km will be constructed going eastwards from Karlstad. This will happen in 2013, according to the National Road Agency long term plan of 2004. From Örebro eastwards there is a stretch of motorway going to Adolfsberg. This will be extended in 2006-7 to Lanna/Vintrosa. E20 From Stockholm to Örebro (south of Lake Mälaren) The section past Strängnäs will be finished in October 2004, well ahead of schedule. More information (In Swedish). Even then there is still a part of the road that is not a motorway, the part between Eskilstuna and Arboga. The small part going from the E18 at Arboga to Kungsör is being studied. E20 From Örebro to Göteborg. The road from Göteborg to the northeast will be turned in to motorway standard to Skara, according to a government plan announced in December 2003. The part connecting Göteborg with Alingsås is already being planned for construction. 12 km will be constructed from 2008 to 2013. Another part of the road, 13 km bypassing Gotene, will also be completed in 2008 to 2013. E22. From Malmö eastwards, through Skåne (Southern part of Sweden). A long stretch of new motorway is being studied and a part going past Bromölla is going to be ready by the summer of 2004. A small part west of Hörby is going to be constructed from the fall 2004 onwards. More information about the Bromölla part. and about the entire project (in Swedish) 40 Borås to Jönköping. This is on the main road from Stockholm to Göteborg. A large portion, about 100 km is not in motorway standard. About half of it, between Jönköping and Ulricehamn, is being widened at the moment. The rest will be made into a four-lane road, being built from 2005 or 6 onwards. A small portion around Ulricehamn (Brämhult to Rångedala) is already being constructed. More information (in Swedish). Ring roads around Stockholm. Södra länken, an inner ring road around Stockholm's southern parts is being constructed. Finished in 2004. More information.
