Roads being built in Portugal and Spain Updated August 11, 2004 Portugal Useful links: Brisa, company building Portugals motorways. Direcção Geral de Viaçaõ, Portugese Road authority Present projects: A2 or IP1?. Southwards to Algarve. This road is going towards the Southern coast. It was completed in 2003. A8 or IC1? Leiria to the north of Caldas de Rainha. Being built? A10 From the A9, north of Lisboa, to Carregado. Paralell route to A1, going north to south, just to the west of A1. A part of the construction is due to be finished in the second half of 2003, and the rest of the road will open for traffic in December 2004. A13 From Santarém, northeast of Lisboa, as well as from the A1 at Carregado to the A6 (south of Lisboa). This is a road which makes it easier passing Lisboa. Also a gonnection northwards, but it is unclear where it is going. All or parts are being built at the moment. The parts being built are due to open for traffic in December 2003. See map. A15 North of Caldas de Rainha to Santarem. Still missing? A25/IP5. Vilar Formoso (Spanish border) to Guarda to Aveiro. The part from Vilar Formosa to Guarda is finished. The rest will be completed by June 2005. IP6 A part towards the Spanish border Road from Lisboa to the Spanish border, towards Valladolid. This is one of the Top Ten Projects that the EU have decided to support. The Portugese part was supposed to be ready by 1998, but so far not much has been done. It is possible, though, that the E802, running from Castelo Branco northwards, is supposed to be a part of it. Road along the coast from Porto southwards, past Aveiro to Figueira da Foz. Is under construction and will open in December 2005. However, it is probably being built below motorway standard. A7 East of Gibraltar, on the road to Málaga. West of Guadalmina a portion is being built? See map of existing road from Málaga. A8 Oviedo and Gijón towards the east and Santander. Several parts being planned, some being built? A12 Astorga to Léon is ready. See map. A30 South of Albacete, on the road from Madrid to Murcia. Construction is going on right now? Afterwards their will be a four lane road all the way from Madrid to Murcia (the south coast). A32 Cartagena to Elx/Elche A49/E1 Huelva to the Portugese border A53 Santiago de Compostela to Ourense/Orensa. Half of it, the southern part, is missing. A part reaching past Lalin has just been constructed. See map. A92 Granada to Almeria. Is being built. It is a four lane road, not a full motorway. A231 Léon to Burgos. A part is missing. Being built? C31/C32. Road going from Barcelona, past Mataró and further east along the Costa Brava. It is being extended, see map. N11 Lleida/Lérida to Barcelona N301 Albacete to Murcia. Several parts. N330/N234 Zaragoza to Valencia. In between there is a portion being built? N611 Santander southwards N630 Mérida and NV/E90 southwards towards Sevilla CV40 From N430 (south of Valencia) towards Alcoi/Alcoy and further on to N330 towards Alicante. Road from Valladolid to the Portugese border, towards Lisboa. This is one of the Top Ten Projects that the EU have decided to support. The Spanish part was supposed to be ready by 2004, but so far not much has been done. It is possible, though, that the N620, running from Valladolid to Salamanca, is supposed to be a part of it.
