Datasäkerhet är något som blivit allt viktigare allteftersom antalet virus, maskar och annnat s.k. malware blivit allt vanligare. Mycket kan göras för att förbättra säkerheten med ganska enkla medel, en del enkla men effektiva medel finns beskrivna på Datasäkerhet. Alla program som finns på denna hemsida med länksidor är s.k. freeware, gratisprogram. Idén med hemsidan uppstod då det stod klart att nästan alla behov när det gäller datasäkerhet kan täckas med gratisprogram, i vissa fall har det visat sig att en del gratisprogram är bättre än sina kommersiella motsvarigheter, några av de bästa programmen finns beskrivna och länkade på Freeware.
Inte bara när det gäller datasäkerhet är gratisprogrammen av godo, väldigt många andra behov kan tillgodoses med sk freeware eller "open source", alltså öppen källkod. En hel rörelse har uppstått med open source som mål, många har tröttnat på dyra program eller Windows totala dominans. Några av open sourceprogrammen är faktiskt bättre än de vanliga kommersiella produkterna, jämför det oerhört dyra och långsamma Adobe reader, det är på 60 mb och anstränger en dator till bristningsgränsen när det startar, det kan ersättas med FoxIt reader, det startar direkt med minimala resurser, det är 1 mb stort. Winzip kan ersättas med det utmärkta Izark som är ett äkta freeware. Att inte fler använder dessa mjukvaror beror väl delvis på att de än så länge är okända för den stora massan av dataanvändare, jag drar mitt lilla stå till stacken för att råda bot på detta;-)

The idea with this site is that free softs appear to compete with the pay soft many times, people pay for soft when the free alternative is quite as good.
Not only when it's about computorsecurity the freeware and open source is good, it satisfy many other needs. A whole movement has rise with open source as a goal, a lot of people has getting tired of expensive soft and Windows total dominance.
Some of the Open source soft is better than the commercial soft, if you compare Adobe for PDF files with FoxIT-reader you will find that FoxIT is smaller, 1 Mb, and 40 times faster, and it's free! If you compare Winzip with Izarc, who is a real freeware, you will find that Izark beat Winzip. There are not so many people who use this free soft's yet, I think it's because they are not known, I will do what I can to change that.

Firewalltest
Här har ett test gjorts av ett antal av de vanligaste brandväggarna.
En av brandväggarna som faktiskt gjorde bäst ifrån sig är ett freeware, Jetico. Den absolut bästa brandväggen är Sygate, deras gratisversion kan du ladda ner här.

Vid ett stort oberoende virustest av AV-Test.org på Otto-von-Guericke-Universitetet i Magdeburg så kom Antivit på andra plats, slagen av enbart AVK. Web Washer kom högst men det är inte ett antivirusprogam för hemanvändare. Antivir är ett gratisprogram och det är en sensation att det slår i princip alla dyra betalprogram. Läs om testet här.

Optimerar registret, defragmenterar och minskar storleken på registret för maximal prestanda. Similar to Windows 9x/Me, the registry files in an NT-based system can become fragmented over time, occupying more space on your hard disk than necessary and decreasing overall performance. The program works by recreating each registry hive "from scratch", thus removing any slack space that may be left from previously modified or deleted keys .
